Jan 24th, 2018 | Musé de la Bande Dessinée d'Angouleme, France
The exhibition of the New generation of Arab comics artists opened as part of the 45th Angoulême International Comics Festival in France, January 2018, till November of the same year.
The exhibition, co-produced by the Mu'taz & Rada Sawwaf Arab Comics Initiative at the American University of Beirut and the La Cité Internationale de La Bande Dessinée et de L’image, offered a glimpse into the world of Arab comics today, from the new generation of artists taking root after the Arab uprisings and talking to an adult audience.
"The nearly fifty comics artists and authors from more than ten Arab countries (Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia) testify to the diversity of graphic styles and modes of narration, inspired by the mutations and tragedies of Arab societies torn between traditions and aspirations to emancipation and freedom" – (Lungheretti, 2018).
