The Neighborhood Study for Karm el-Zeitoun in Beirut was a collaborative project involving CCECS, the Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management (LDEM) at AUB, and the Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development (HFSHD). In addition to its successful rehabilitation of a local neighborhood within Karm el-Zeitoun, it also served as an early model for service-learning at AUB bringing together students from AUB, staff from HFSHD, as well as community members from Karm el-Zeitoun to develop a collaborative plan for animating the area. The project rehabilitated the pedestrian landscape creating a utilizable space which functions both as a walkway and as a platform for various events and activities.
