This initiative aims to address questions of development in the MENA region from a critical perspective that centers social and environmental justice. For this end, a series of op-eds and webinars will bring together a number of leading scholars from the region (and beyond) to tackle the main questions of development in today’s world, with a special focus on the MENA.
In addition, the initiative will launch the Beirut Institute in Development Studies, a two-week workshop to take place at AUB on a yearly basis, bringing together early-career scholars and leading scholars in the field to foster research networks and create spaces for discussions and collaborations.
Finally, this initiative aims to eventually introduce a new Diploma in Development Studies at AUB. This one-year diploma will offer a variety of disciplinary and thematic approaches to development-related issues from a critical perspective rooted in the Global South. The diploma will train students in the following topics:
- Globalization, Inequality and Development
- Labor, Migration and Development
- Humanitarianism, Forced Migration and Development
- Gender and Development
- Health, Environment and Development
The diploma launch date is not yet finalized, but follow us on (insert our social media handles) or visit this webpage for updates.
