As part of its continuous efforts to advance the healthcare sector in Lebanon and in the region, the Evidence based Healthcare Management Unit (EHMU) at AUB and AUBMC joined forces with the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Office of the Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHCI), the Ministry of Public Health, the Syndicate of Hospitals in Lebanon, and the Order of Nurses in Lebanon, to organize the first managerial mentorship program in Evidence-based Management (EBMgt) for hospital middle-managers: ADILLA.

The aim of ADILLA is to empower managers to make better-informed decisions using the best available evidence in their context, with patient experience, staff experience, as well as financial outcomes as key indicators.

The program was designed to develop managers' skills in EBMgt by bringing together top notch scholars and practitioners from AUB and AUBMC, to mentor managers from leading hospitals in Beirut: Al-Makassed General Hospital, American University of Beirut Medical Center, Central Military Hospital, Hotel Dieu de France, Lebanese American University Medical Center Rizk Hospital, Rafic Hariri University Hospital, and St George Hospital University Medical Center. Through improving the skills and competence of employees across the organizational hierarchy, ADILLA contributes to the betterment of healthcare delivery at the national level.

“We designed this program to bring together managers from traditionally competing hospitals but with the spirit of collaboration and information sharing, in order to improve health delivery as a nation, not only as independent institutions" said Dr Lina Daouk-Öyry, Director of ADILLA. The teams worked collaboratively under the guidance of highly-qualified mentors and shared managerial problems that hospitals typically keep to themselves. This provided a unique opportunity to maximize learning from each other for better healthcare management and delivery in Lebanon.

This program in the first of many others that will be launched nationally, paving the way for creating a network of middle-managers across hospitals in Lebanon who believe in knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
