The unit reviews plans, designs, specifications, bills of quantities, and relevant submitted materials and equipment for compliance with safety requirements of AUB and adopted codes for all capital and in-house projects throughout AUB (Campus and AUBMC). This includes but is not limited to the following: Adequacy of exits, exit components, and paths of egress, doors and hardware schedules, fire pumps, fire hydrants rings, sprinkler systems, standpipe and hose systems, gaseous, wet and dry chemical fire suppression systems, fire detection and alarm systems and their interconnections with other systems, elevators, fire dampers, exit signs, emergency lighting, electrical installations, sealing of vertical and horizontal openings, ADA facilities and accessibility, and other safety related features.
Services Offered:
Conducting inspections and performing the 3rd party testing, commissioning and handing-over of safety related systems and other life safety features according to required standards of AUB, NFPA, FGI, and ADA.
Witnessing the maintenance and testing of existing fire alarm and suppression systems according to required standards of AUB and NFPA.
Responding to emergencies at AUB (Campus and AUBMC) and assume the role of the Incident Commander in all the activities of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
Attending site and other coordination meetings and conveying relevant requirements when responding to life and fire safety inquiries.
Takeing an active role in the Facility Management Safety Committee (FMSC) at AUBMC.
Conducting an annual comprehensive life and fire safety survey of AUBMC.
Assisting various departments throughout AUBMC in the preparation for and compliance with the fire safety requirements of the JCI, MOPH and CAP accreditations.
Taking custody of the Fire Safety Plan at AUBMC and Emergency Response Procedures at AUB.
Assisting in the preparation and review of plans, policies, and procedures related to life and fire safety throughout AUB.
Conducting fire drills in AUB dorms and other buildings as and when needed and taking part in all the fire, evacuation, and emergency preparedness drills at AUBMC.
Offering theoretical and practical fire training sessions to raise awareness among AUB staff, faculty, and students, upon request.
