Our center has a rich history in education, training, outreach and research in the fields of agriculture and rural development. Its location in a semi-arid region in the heart of the Beq’aa plain allowed the 100 ha center to play an important role in the lives of the surrounding communities in the last 62 years. Livelihoods, outreach, water management, conservation agriculture, the sustainable use of resources and animal and plant production and health are our targets. The legacy of AREC lies in the fact that it contributed in providing experiential learning for more than 2200 Agricultural engineers from Lebanon and the region since its establishment, and it has also conducted outreach activities and contributed to the development of the agricultural sector in Lebanon.
AREC is equipped with modern facilities (labs, fast internet, amphitheaters, guest houses, lecture rooms, etc.). It is also a training and retreat center for conferences and workshops. In addition, many members of the AUB community spend leisurely weekends or retreats on the grounds, either in the well-equipped modern guest houses or in the more frugal dormitories.
Building a sustainable nation through “excellence in research and community development and finding innovative solutions” is our goal. I invite you to visit us and our facilities and meet our staff.
Mustapha Haidar, Ph.D
