Designing Solutions for Health Challenges in Crises
The Humanitarian Engineering Initiative at the American University of Beirut (a partnership between the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (MSFEA)), offers annually the Humanitarian Engineering course "Designing Solutions for Health Challenges in Crises". The next offering is scheduled to run between 3rd and 18th of January, 2020.
The course model is made of several components including interactive lectures and field visits to refugee settlements and facilities for interviews with care workers and refugees. Students work in teams to conduct needs assessments, identify problems, ideate, design, and prototype solutions. About 20 faculty members are involved in delivering lectures and mentoring the groups of students.
We welcome all students and professionals from all over the world. The fees depend on whether the participant wants to take the course for credit or certificate only. If for credit this is a 3 credit course based on AUB fees. For the certificate only, the course enrollment fee is as follows:
$1,500 for professionals inside Lebanon
$1,000 for professionals from outside Lebanon and for AUB alumni
$1,000 for students
