FAFS Researchers Develop a Research Agenda in the Field of Nutrition in Non-Communicable Diseases

​We are proud to announce that the AUB ranked third in terms of research productivity (# of research papers) in the area of nutrition and non-communicable diseases, after King Saud and King Abdulaziz universities. Among these universities, AUB ranked first in terms of quality of research (as assessed by impact factor of published papers and the number of citations).

This ranking was featured in a recent scoping review that a group of researchers from NFSC (Dr. Nahla Hwalla, Dr. Farah Naja, Dr. Hibeh Shatila, Dr. Sally Haber and Dr. Lara Nasreddine) have conducted; whereby all research papers published in the field of nutrition and NCD in the 22 Arab Countries were reviewed.​ R​EA​D​​ ​M​​O​​RE​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The Raji and Fawzieh Sinno Student Services Office I​naugurated at FAFS

The Raji and Fawzieh Sinno Student Services Office was inaugurated in an official dedication ceremony on Tuesday, August 29. The ceremony included a plaque revealing followed by speeches. The event was attended by generous donor and prominent alumnus Khaled Sinno, his family, as well as President Fadlo Khuri, FAFS Dean Nahla Hwalla, AUB officials, guests, and friends.​​ R​EA​D​​ ​M​​O​​RE​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Congratulations to the Nutrition and Dietetics Coordinated Program at FAFS on Achieving Full Re-accreditation by the USA-Based ACEND

This outstanding achievement re-confir​ms that AUB's Nutrition and Dietetics Coordinated Program meets the stringent requirements and expectations of the accredited nutrition education programs within the United States, making it the only nutrition and dietetics program in Lebanon and the region to allow its graduates to be eligible to sit for the US-Based Registration Examination for Dietitians and get awarded the credential of Registered Dietitian (RD).​ R​EA​D​​ ​M​​O​​RE​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

ESDU Aims at Enhancing Food Security and Economic Resilience in Vulnerable Communities

ESDU at FAFS has led the agricultural part of the project entitled “Building the Food Security and Economic Resilience of Syrian Refugees and Vulnerable Members of​ their Host Communities in Beirut/Lebanon”, implemented in collaboration with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) and with support of The Near East Foundation (NEF). R​EA​D​​ ​M​​O​​RE​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

CCECS-WFP Digital Skills Training Program at AREC

During the months of May and June, the first group of 70 economically disadvantaged Syrian and Lebanese young adults, aged 15-30 years, was trained at AREC for basic digital literacy, internet literacy, MS Office programs, Photoshop, and English. R​EA​D​​ ​M​​O​RE​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

​Naming Ceremony of the The Michel and Sherine Bayoud Lecture Hall

ESDU Towards "Reducing Vulnerability ​of Syrian Refugees and Lebanese, in Lebanon"

FAFS and AUB Professors ​Contributed to the Publication of “Water, Energy and Food Sustainability in the Middle East: The Sustainability Triangle”

The​​ book provides a survey of technologies available to tackle the problems associated with climate change in the energy, water and food security nexus, with a special focus on the Middle East.​​ R​EA​D​ ​M​​ORE​​​​​​​​

FAFS Establishes the Dr. Musa Nimah Endowed Award for Academic Excellence

Dr. Nimah’s family, friends, and students have been working with AUB for almost a year, and they were able to successfully raise the money needed to establish this endowment. The Family of Dr. Nimah and FAFS Family are very thankful to the WAAAUB- Eastern Province Chapter who has made the biggest donation towards this award. R​EA​D​ ​M​​O​RE​​​​​​​​

LDEM Students Win First Prize U​nder the Arts and Humanities Category at IBDAA 2017

On April 27, 2017, a group of LDEM students, Ghida Sbeity, Hussein Ghazi and Farah Bou Ghanem, under the supervision of Dr. Salma Talhouk, have participated and won the 1st prize competition at the annual international biodiversity Day, IBDAA event 2017, under the Arts and Humanities category. R​EA​D​ ​M​​ORE​​​​​​​​

Agribusiness Students Won Second Prize at IBDAA 2017

​Four student teams from the FAFS Agribusin​ess Program participated in IBDAA 2017,​ on April 27, and the “Baladi” team won second prize in the business plan category. ​​​​R​EA​D​ ​M​​ORE​​​​​

The Raji and Fawzieh Historical Donations to FAFS​​​​

FAFS is greatly honored and proud to announce three first of their kind donations in support of the faculty and the agricultural sector in Lebanon. As a commemoration for his parents, Mr. Khaled Sinno, AUB alumnus and owner ​of Karma Lebanon, has g​enerously offered to establish​ The Raji and Fawzieh Sinno Scholarships in Agriculture and The Raji & Fawzieh Sinno Promising Leader in Agriculture Award. The FAFS Students Services Office will also be named after Raji and Fawzieh Sinno. ​R​EA​D​ ​M​​ORE​​​

Workshop on Greenhouse Integrated Pest Management in Lebanon: A Path to a Greener Future

On the 20th of April, 2017, the Department of Agriculture, represented by the IPM research team, namely Dr. Abou Jawdah, Miss Patil Tawidian, Miss Hana Sobh and Mr. Andre Abou Haidar, in cooperation​ with IPM experts from the University of Vermont, Dr. Bruce Parker and Dr. Margaret Skinner, held a workshop titled:  “Greenhouse Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Lebanon: A Path to a Greener Future” at the premises of the Ministry of Agriculture.​ R​EA​D​ ​M​​ORE​​​

​FAFS’ Faculty Members Participate in AUB4Refugees Forum: A Narrative of Hope

The AUB4Refugees Initiative was launched in the fall of 2016 to gather AUB members and many different groups who are addressing the impacts of the Syrian refugee crisis. An all-day successful public forum titled “Innovative Responses to the Syrian Refugee Crisis” was held at Bathish Auditorium on January 27 to launch this program and to highlight some of AUB’s ongoing projects. REA​D MORE​
