Webinar Series: Impact of Covid-19 on Global Food Security

FAFS' Food Security Program (FSP) has launched the webinar series “The Impact of COVID-19 on Global Food Security"  led by Dr. Martin Keulertz, chair of the FSP Executive Committee, Rachel Bahn, FSP Coordinator, and Abed Yehya, Research Assistant.

The webinar sessions launched on April 23rd, international guest speakers were invited to participate in the panel discussion. The panel  considered several timely questions on topics of including: food trade, food security in ​the Global South, water and climate, nutrition security, sustainable food systems, food security startegies in the Middle East, and Gender.

Guest speakers elaborated on COVID-19 impacts in their respective regions, described their primary concerns and recommendations, and answered different important questions from the moderators and audience. Watch the video-recording for all the seven sessions below:​ 


Webinar 1: Impact of COVID-19 on Food Trade

The third webinar of the series "The impact of COVID-19 on Global Food Security'' addressed the impact of COVID-19 on global food security and specifically, on water security and climate. International speakers included: Rachael McDonnell (International Water Management Institute), Mark Mulligan (King's College London), Rabi Mohtar (American University of Beirut), Cecilia Tortajada (National University of Singapore), and Jeroen Warner (Wageningen University & Research). Webinar 2: Impact of COVID-19 on Food Security in the Global South

The webinar discussed key impacts of COVID-19 on nutrition security – globally, regionally, and locally. Speakers shared their opinions regarding the crucial intervention points needed. More than 100 viewers joined the live webinar to hear the input of high profile speakers that included: Lawrence Haddad (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN)) Patrick Webb (Tufts University) Lauren Landis (Un World Food Program (WFP)) Nahla Hwalla & Lamis Jomaa (American University of Beirut).
