The science panel on Water-Energy-Food Nexus in the Levant

​​​On the evening of December 6, the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS) and the Food Security Program (FSP) hosted a Science Panel on Water-Energy-Food Nexus in the Levant in collaboration with ​DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).

The event took place at Charles Hostler Student Center Auditorium as FAFS, FSP, and DAAD had a great pleasure to feature welcome addresses by H.E. Dr. Georg Birgelen German Embassy Beirut, AUB Provost Dr. Mohammad Harajli, and the country director of DAAD-Lebanon, Bahar Sayyas.

Panel Chair: Dr. Martin Keulertz (FSP).
Panelists: Dr. Rabi Muhtar (Dean at AUB -FAFS), Dr. Ines Dombrowsky (Program Director at German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik, Dr. Martina Flörke (Universität Kassel), Dr. Amjad El Mahdi (International Water Management Institute), and Dr. Nadim Farajallah (Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI)).

The event illustrated the need for a continued, robust, and evidence-based dialogue across the private sector, academia and researchers, and NGOs – to inform and improve the water-energy-food nexus in the Levant.

An audience of 80+ participated in the event, including AUB president wife, Dr. Lamya Tannous Khuri,​ faculty, students, alumni, and external guests from the private sector, from organizations including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), and from other Lebanese​ universities, NGOs, and civil society. The event was followed by a buffet reception by DAAD.​
