As part of LDEM 260 Contemporary Issues in Landscape Architecture, the class is hosting a series of guest lectures from the Department of Landscape at the University of Sheffield to encourage collective thinking on professional and academic experiences regarding design, maintenance and management, and equity in landscape architecture.
Jake Robinson, Microbial Ecologist at the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield gave a lecture on November 10th , 2022 about Microbes and Cryptogams in Landscape Architecture. Dr. Robinson highlighted how microbes and microbiomes are integral to our health and well-being and how as designers we can incorporate innovative microbiome-inspired green infrastructure (MIGI). Also he discussed how to include 'doses of nature and complex ecosystems in the design of landscapes and green spaces including innovative living urban features that could potentially enhance public health via health-inducing microbial interactions.
