FAFS annual AREC Day took place on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the AREC facility in the Beqaa’. Over 800 persons, including AUB President Fadlo Khuri and FAFS Dean Rabi Mohtar, as well as AUB and FAFS faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends gathered to enjoy a fun-filled, unforgettable day.
Visitors were received by AREC director, Dr. Mustapha Haidar and AREC staff and then enjoyed a tasty Lebanese breakfast. The event included hayrides, horse and camel riding, rope pulling, egg tossing and other entertainments, all prepared and coordinated by AREC students. The local surrounding community provided a rich farmers’ market with a wide variety of traditional and local products (mouneh). Adults and kids spent a joyful time touring the spacious green center, playing with inflatable games, and visiting the farm's animals. Before the open buffet (lunch, sweets and ice cream), visitors participated in a Dabkeh orchestrated by the AUB Dabkeh Club.
The day ended with planting Artichokes, provided by AGRIVET nursery. The event was organized by AREC Director, Dr. Mustapha Haidar, and FAFS Student Records Officer, Ms. Tharwat Haddad in collaboration with Agriculture Student Society at FAFS, and sponsored by AREC, FAFS Dean’s office, Hallab Kasr El Helou, Kassatly, Lipton Ice Tea and Rim water.
