FAFS alumnus Faouzi Issa receives international awards at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) 2018

At the International Wine Challenge (IWC) 2018, London, FAFS prominent alumnus Faouzi Issa (Agricultural Engineering, 2006), winemaker, and co-owner of Domaine des Tourelles winery - Lebanon, won​ three prestigious international awards, bringing a unique honor to Lebanon: Gold Medal, Jury’s Trophy, and Great Value Champion Red for his Domaine des Tourelles 2014.​


The IWC, owned by William Reed Business Media, the world's most influential, meticulously judged, independent wine competition assesses every wine blind, judging each for its faithfulness to style, region, and vintage. Throughout the rigorous judging processes, each medal-winning wine is tasted on three separate occasions and by at least 10 different judges. More than 15,000 competitors from around the world participated in this year’s challenge. 

Faouzi Issa’s early interest in land cultivation led him to study Agricultural Engineering at FAFS, AUB. After earning his undergraduate degree, Faouzi traveled to France to pursue a masters’ degree in Viticulture and Enology from Supagro de Montpellier, one of the most highly acclaimed enology universities in the world. After graduating, Issa remained in France gaining hands-on experience, working with René Rostaing in the Rhone Valley for six months and then as an assistant winemaker at the iconic Premier Cru Property, Chateau Margaux, in Bordeaux for close to two years. At the age of 24, Mr. Issa returned​ to Lebanon and took over winemaking and managerial duties at the Domaine des Tourelles winery - Lebanon . Ten years later, he was recognized as one of the most influential winemakers in the country; his wines have received numerous accolades in the national and international wine press. ​
