As part of the requirements of the New York State of Education Department (NYSED) for full program registration LDEM engaged in a review of its undergraduate program in Landscape Architecture (BLA). The academic review, led by LDEM Associate Professor Yaser Abunnasr, was conducted in late April and early May. The two international external reviewers expressed very positive feedback regarding the report and the site visit.
Reviewers were contacted after preliminary list approval by NYSED. Two reviewers approved visiting and evaluating the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) program in early April 2018, where they visited the department separately.
Dr. Susan Kelly Shannon (first program reviewer), professor of urbanism at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering at KU Leuven, Belgium, visited LDEM from April 25 to April 29, 2018.
Dr. John Francis Ahern (second program reviewer), professor of landscape architecture and urban planning at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, visited LDEM from May 2 to May 5, 2018.
Both reviewers had three full days schedule each. They reviewed the LDEM self-study report, student and courses material, and met with Provost Harajli, Associate Provost Choueiri, FAFS Dean Mohtar, LDEM Chairperson Zurayk, FAFS Chairpersons, as well as heads of units of the Neighborhood Initiative, the CCECS, the Chairs of CEE and ArD from MSFEA. They also met with LDEM full-time and part-time members and staff, professionals from the landscape architecture field, LDEM students and a number of recent LDEM graduates. In addition, the department took advantage of the presence of the two distinguished academicians/professionals to organize public lectures.
Once full registration of the BLA program is achieved, the department is planning to apply for ASLA/LAAB accreditation (The American Society of Landscape Architects/ The Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board).
