FAFS proudly announces the inauguration of the Michel and Sherine Bayoud Lecture Hall, whose renovation was made possible through the generous gift of Mr. Michel Bayoud. FAFS fully modernized the campus landmark, present since the faculty’s inception over 50 years ago. The new Hall is also the new face of FAFS: its first named facility and its third largest, after AREC and Pilot Plant.
Mr. Bayoud, class of 1992, is founder and CEO of Boecker group, vice chair of the FAFS External Advisory Board, and former FAFS instructor, and a vital member of the AUB community and the FAFS family.
During his remarks, Mr. Bayoud recalled his memories of FAFS and shared his pride as a FAFS alum. Mr. Bayoud also commented on his gratitude to the notable FAFS faculty and announced his intent to establish two annual student awards for “excellence in the field of entomology and pesticides” and “excellence in food science”.
The renovated Michel and Sherine Bayoud Lecture Hall is equipped with excellent technical capabilities to promote an effective learning environment for FAFS students. Major system enhancements were implemented, including advanced and intuitive control panels embedded in a digital lectern and real-time image capturing via document camera that displays an object to a large audience. The new technical capacities were demonstrated to the audience by FAFS’ IT manager, Ms. Dania Al Ashi and financial and facilities officer, Ms. Laila Houri, who explained the implications for enhanced academic experiences that will allow FAFS to host significant conferences, academic activities, high-quality conference calls and panel discussions.
Sharing the celebration of the renovated facility were many honored guests, including AUB Board of Trustee Member Dr. Jose Zagloul; Associate Provosts Dr. Zaher Dawy, Dr. Lina Choueiri and Dr. Ayad Jaffa (representing Dr. Mohamad Sayegh); Vice President for Advancement, Dr. Imad Baalbaki; FAFS External Advisory Board chair Mr. Khaled Sinno and members Dr. Lamia Tannous Khuri, Mr. Nabil De Freij and Mr. Musa Freiji; Director General of International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), Dr. Aly Abou Sabaa; Dr. Mahmoud Solh, FAFS faculty and staff; members from AUB administration, and Mr. Bayoud and his family.
AUB, and the FAFS faculty, staff, and students, are grateful to Mr. Bayoud for his dedication and continuing support.
