The annual conference of the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) was held at Le Bristol Hotel, Beirut (November 14-15), and provided the first comprehensive survey of environmental material in school and university curricula across the Arab countries. The survey identified gaps and recommended pathways to enhance the role of education in advancing environmental protection and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
FAFS’ Associate Dean Ammar Olabi participated in the panel that reviewed environmental education in Arab Universities. Representatives from Arab countries and the Mediterranean region presented the 2019 of AFED: Environmental Education for Sustainable Development in Arab Countries. The conference hosted 150 delegates, representing governments, regional and international organizations, private sector, academics, students and civil society. The event concluded with the Future Environment Leaders Forum (FELF), in which students from universities across the region, including AUB, participated.
