President Khuri and Dean Mohtar, recently elected to the World Water Council (WWC) Board of Governors, hosted WWC president Loïc Fauchon and discussed future collaborations between the Council and AUB.
Discussion topics included the University for Water Project and support of WWC in water training and capacity building for water practitioners and executives. These were in addition to topics of integrated Water Resource Management as relates to the WEFRAH vision, working with FAO on a concept note regarding exploration of water for rural development at the Dakar Water Forum, and WWC’s funding of the participation of three Lebanese youth at the World Water Forum in Dakar.
Dean Mohtar and alternate governor Mutasem Fadel attended the 68th Board of Governors (BoG) meeting of the World Water Council (WWC) in Beirut’s Le Royal Hotel, Dbayeh (April 9-10).
Building on momentum generated at the 8th General Assembly (late 2018), the BoG met to translate the political orientation framed in the 2019-2021 strategy into action for water security, sustainability, and resilience. The new strategy, developed in consultation with stakeholders from governments, private sector, academics, and civil society, builds on lessons learned. The 2019-2021 strategic plan identifies strategic pillars to guide the Council’s work, including promotion of better water governance, sharing knowledge, and aligning financial resources with water needs. The Board also discussed celebration of the 2019 World Water Day, participation in the 1st International Forum on Water Scarcity in Agriculture, and the 81st African Water Association Scientific and Technical Council meeting.
