Hydration for Health: Young Research Award

Carla El-Mallah, Ph.D. candidate and member of Dr. Omar Obeid’s team, is the ‘young researcher’ of the Hydration for Health (H4H) Scientific Conference on water and hydration (Evian, France, June 25-26). She was named for the award by the H4H scientific committee for one of the top six projects in the area. 

H4H supports new young investigators working on hydration, the international scientific committee specializing in hydration identifies six participants annually who are challenged to present a 3-minute pitch on their work. This, the 11th meeting, attracted research experts and from several disciplines, including nutrition. El-Mallah’s application was selected for her project: Cold plain water favorably impacted body composition while non-caloric sweetener had detrimental effect. The project investigated the effect of the ingestion of plain or sweetened water with varied temperatures on the growth measures of rats. El-Mallah was sponsored by Danone Nutricia Research​ and invited to present her research outcomes at the international platform, which included audience interaction and support from experts in the field. Other winners were from USA, UK, Italy and China. According to Carla, the experience allowed her to build a small scientific network with whom to discuss future, potential projects.
