Dr. Lara Nasreddine contributor at IAEA and WHO

Dr. Lara Nasreddine participated in the Regional Meeting on ARASIA Regional Project Design for 2020-2021, in Vienna, Austria, from 11 to 14 March 2019. Nasreddine contributed to the design of the project Applying nuclear techniques for the determination of body fat cutoffs in the ARASIA region” which aims at assessing body composition of adolescents in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and the UAE, using the deuterium dilution technique.

Her project builds on previous successful collaborations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Project outcomes, expected to pave the way for regional recommendations on assessing adolescent obesity, to be shared with policy makers and health care practitioners in the region.

At the World Health Organization (WHO) regional meeting (March 19 to 21), Dr. Nasreddine made an oral presentation, Food Based Dietary Guidelines – A tool for delivering healthy messages in Lebanon. The WHO workshop on healthy diet, organized to share experiences of the Member States on topics including dietary salt, fat and sugar reduction, was intended to develop national plans for implementing these reduction strategies focused on trans-fatty acid eliminations. Participating experts developed a road map for nutrition policies in Lebanon.
