Challenges to Lebanon’s agriculture and food security by Martin Keulertz

​​Dr. Martin Keulertz, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Food Security Program’s Executive Committee, delivered a lecture at the AUB University for Seniors (September 19), in which he emphasized food and nutrition security, among the key issues in the Arab region.

The lack of sufficient arable land and the severe scarcity of water combine to make agricultural production in the region highly challenging. Lebanon is among the three most water scarce countries in the world. Dr. Keulertz discussed some of the food and nutrition security challenges that Lebanon and the Arab region will face in the 21st century; he also offered potential ways of addressing these challenges. A fruitful discussion with the audience followed his presentation.
