The workshop: Structural transformation of the countryside, took place at Berlin’s Freie Universität on October 24-25. Dr. Giuliano Martiniello, an expert in agrarian political economy, transnational agrarian movements, local and national struggles for peasant’s rights, participated in the panel, Movements, Subjects, and Strategies.
The presentation, part of the research initiative Global change – local conflicts? Land conflicts in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa in the context of interdependent transformation processes (GLOCON), touched on the political economy of rural change, rural politics in times of crisis, rural policies and structural transformation, movements, and strategies. The workshop’s objective was to bring together scholars from different fields and global regions to examine and discuss changes in social structure that shape rural life, livelihoods, and subjectivities.
