Dr. Maria Gabriella Trovato, Assistant Professor at LDEM and Chair of the Landscape Architects Without Borders (LAWB) group under the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), organized and moderated a breakout session at the IFLA 2019 Congress held in Oslo, Norway (September 18-19). The Congress, which was attended by over 1300 participants and hosted over 250 talks, delved into the theme of the Common Ground: the global challenge for a sustainable life is affecting countries and communities worldwide. Landscape architecture is increasingly leading the way in addressing the complex ecological, social, and economic problems confronting rapid urbanization and resource re-allocation in both established and developing countries.
The LAWB session titled Migrants and Common Ground: how design can accommodate newcomers inquired invited Architects, Urban Planners and Landscape architects on the common role design disciplines play in addressing the migratory conditions of displaced people worldwide.
