Dr. Nahla Hwalla, former FAFS Dean and current Professor in the department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, received the Medallion award from the US Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (October 27). In recognition of her dedication to the high standards of the nutrition and dietetics profession and her active participation, leadership and devotion to service through, dietetics, and its allied health fields. Dr. Hwalla is only the second person outside the US to ever receive the Medallion award. Her dedication to the future of practice, research, and education in nutrition and dietetics, exemplifies the rich legacy of perseverance and professionalism that has made her a respected, revered role model and teacher for students and professionals throughout the field.
Dr. Hwalla expressed “a big thank you to the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) for honoring me with the Medallion award. It is a signature of excellence for Lebanon, and all of those at the American University of Beirut and the Nutrition and Food Sciences department who were instrumental in making our dietetics program stand out globally… For us at AUB, this is really an exceptional acclaim being only the second ever to be awarded out of the United States.”
