FAFS Dean Emeritus Nuhad Daghir receives Golden Medal of Education Award

FAFS Dean Emeritus Nuhad Daghir received the Golden Medal of Education from President Michel Aoun, represented by caretaker Culture Minister Ghattas Khoury, in recognition and appreciation of Dr. Daghir’s contributions to the agricultural sphere in Lebanon. The ceremony held on December 26 at the Grand Serail was in the presence of Secretary General of the National Council of Scientific Research Mouin Hamzeh, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers Fouad Fleifel, Dean of AUB’s Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences Rabi Mohtar, family members, and other dignitaries.

Minister Khoury introduced Dr. Daghir and addressed his abundant scientific research and projects for the advancement of agriculture in Lebanon. Dr. Daghir thanked President Aoun for bestowing such a high-ranking citation, commenting that, "today’s citation is granted to knowledge in Lebanon and all Lebanese scientists who work under very difficult conditions."

Dr. Daghir holds a BSc from FAFS, AUB (1957); his MSc and PhD are from Iowa State University (1959 and 1962, respectively). Dr. Daghir was associate professor at FAFS from 1967-1975, then he became a full professor. He became dean of FAFS in 1996, and as dean, established multiple programs and oversaw increasing enrollment. Daghir helped found the Lebanese branch of the World Poultry Science Association in 1962 and served as its president until 1984. Today, Dr. Daghir is Dean Emeritus at AUB.
