Dr. Rami Zurayk (LDEM) was an invited participant at the 46th annual meeting of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), held at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy (October 14-18). The CFS session brings together food security and nutrition stakeholders from across the world to network, review global progress, share experiences and agree on policy guidance. Dr. Zurayk also joined the ESCWA partner side event, Informed decision making on Arab food security within the context of climate change (October 15), organized with the aim of providing support towards the elimination of hunger and ensuring food security and nutrition for the Arab Region.
The side event discussed outcomes from a recent initiative on tracking food security in the Arab Region, the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector within the framework of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and related Arab strategies and initiatives. ESCWA, in cooperation with FAO, ACSAD, AOAD, and support from Sida, implemented the initiative in the framework of its project to promote food and water security in the Arab region. The initiative aims to highlight the benefits of enhanced technical capacity and resilience to climate change, which, in turn, contribute to anchoring the science-policy-interface approach to national and regional policy development for enhanced food security.
