FAFS Alumnus Samer Harb, first Lebanese Certified Food Scientist

​​​​FAFS alumnus Samer Harb, B.Sc. in Nutrition & Dietetics (1995) and MS in Food Technology (1997), after successfully completing the exam offered by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) becomes one of five Arabs and the only Lebanese to hold the title of Certified Food Scientist (CFS).

The CFS credential is the only global certification for food science professionals and recognizes the applied scientific knowledge and skills of global food professionals. The credential was established five years ago for professionals with degrees in food science, chemistry, engineering, microbiology, biology and more. To date, only 1,900 food scientists in 55 countries have been certified. Harb worked in food safety and production for over 20 years in Lebanon, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, where he is general manager of production at Danube Co. Ltd. Harb’s future plans include a consulting firm on proper food safety in Lebanon.
