In collaboration with DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), FAFS and the Food Security Program (FSP) hosted the Science Panel on Water-Energy-Food Nexus in the Levant (December 6).
The event at the Charles Hostler Student Center Auditorium featured welcome addresses by H.E. Dr. Georg Birgelen, German Embassy Beirut, Dr. Mohammad Harajli, AUB Provost, and Ms. Bahar Sayyas, IC Beirut Director, DAAD-Lebanon. The event illustrated the need for a continued, robust, evidence-based dialogue across the private sector, academia, researchers, and NGOs: one that informs and improves the water-energy-food nexus in the Levant. An audience of 80+ participated, including Dr. Lamya Tannous Khuri, FAFS-EAB, faculty, students, and alumni; additional, external, guests were from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), and other Lebanese universities, NGOs, and civil society. The event was followed by a buffet reception hosted by DAAD.
