Transforming Lebanon's Agriculture: Challenges and Opportunities

​​In collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Bank group and the Ministry of Agriculture, Dean Mohtar attended and organized a panel on Transforming Lebanon’s Agriculture: Challenges and Opportunities at the Grand Serail (October 4). Dean Mohtar’s session focused on a​ccelerating innovation in agriculture. This session featured a joint presentation of international and Lebanese speakers on transformative innovations and technologies for supply of new knowledge and services to farmers and agribusinesses. Well renowned speakers from local and international organizations discussed the applications of emerging technologies in agriculture, innovative approaches in agriculture extension and advisory services to promote business orientation and market access, and building solutions for the agriculture of the future from IBM’s perspective. This event was important in finding a balance between today’s agriculture and the future of where the country’s agriculture sector can go.

The speakers came from various different corporations and locations including, former minister and chairperson, FAO representative in Lebanon, World Bank, minister of agriculture, ministry of agriculture, director general of agriculture, president committee of “Lebanon Agriculture Development Conference September 2019”, president of agricultural committee of the federation of chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture in Lebanon, Lebanese ministry of economy, head of Ireland rural development authority (Teagasc), FAO, international food policy research institute, faculty of agricultural and food sciences at AUB, Berytech, IBM, form​er Lebanese minister of finance, IFC (International Finance Cooperation), Land O’Lakes Inc. (USA), minister of agriculture, prime minister’s advisor, minister of economy and trade, minister of finance, and president of the council of ministers.
