AUB Provost Mohamed Harajli and HE Minister Wael Abou Faour signed (May 20) a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FAFS-AUB and the Lebanese Ministry of Industry. The MoU provides for implementation of joint efforts between the Ministry and AUB to promote and apply national food safety and food quality guidelines. In this context, and as a first step, the Ministry launched an initiative to evaluate food production factories across Lebanon.
This initiative is led by FAFS Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences (NFSC), Dr. Issmat Kassem and Reem Hamzeh. Seven FAFS students, Lea Dagher, Mona Zeidan, Abd Allah Alhaj Sulaima, Ali Assi, Taolaire Sourenian, Jouman Hassan and Hanin Chafei, volunteered to take part in this important project and have begun inspecting several food-production facilitates. Evaluation reports were submitted to the Ministry of Industry and a follow-up inspection will take place.
