Dr. Beata Dreksler led second-year LDEM students; Hani Abdallah, Michele Abi Hable, Marie El Hage, Tima Farhat, Lynn Fattouhi, Kinda Nasrallah, Amal Tarhini, and Hana Younes, in the design and development of a community garden in Ain Mreisseh, Beirut. The work was done in collaboration with the AUB Neighborhood Initiative led by Mona Hallak. The activity was part of LDEM 204 Studio IV Cultural Landscape Design where students worked on documenting the location of the community garden and its surrounding that led to the development of practical and implementable ideas that address food production, social cohesion, and mental health. By considering tangible and intangible heritage values, the students were able to root their ideas within the context of Ain El Mreisseh. Student presentations were shared with the AUB Neighborhood Initiative to look into implementation possibilities.
