During a recent interview with the Italian magazine, Dr. Giuliano Martiniello discussed “Locusts and Food Security and Climate Change in East Africa." Dr. Martiniello focused on the relationship between climate change and the outbreak of locusts in eastern Africa; connecting their emergence with oscillations in rain patterns, drought and flooding. In his interview Dr. Martiniello demonstrates how the locust outbreak also jeopardizes the livelihoods of millions of rural dwellers and worsens their prospect for achieving food security.
