Dr. Jaafar is a co-investigator at AUB on the project “Seeds for recovery: The long-term impacts of a complex agricultural intervention on welfare, behaviors, and stability in Syria". The project is lead within AUB by Dr. Hala Ghattas of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and internationally by International Security and Development Center (ISDC), Berlin. Dr. Jaafar will analyze changes in agricultural productivity in intervention zones using machine learning and image classification of satellite imagery. The project which received three-years of funding from the Centre of Excellence for Development Impact and Learning (CEDIL) in the UK, and through the UK government's Department for International Development (DFID), aims at developing and testing innovative methods for evaluation and evidence synthesis of FAO's agricultural interventions in Syria and building evidence on methods for delivery of research uptake.
