LDEM is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Yaser Abunnasr as the Chairperson of the Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management (LDEM), effective January 27, 2020, for a three-year term concluding January 27, 2023. Dr. Abunnasr has coordinated the Landscape Architecture Program since fall 2018. He led the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board (LAAB) process for accreditation of the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program. Once approved, this will be the first accredited program globally outside of the USA. Dr. Abunnasr is a member of the AREC Task Force, and led the development of FAFS' departmental and faculty level space needs assessments; he chairs the FAFS facilities committee.
LDEM expressed its sincere gratitude to Dr. Rami Zurayk for his distinguished service and commitment to the department throughout his term as Chair. Under Dr. Zurayk's leadership and tenure, LDEM successfully completed an external review of its undergraduate program in Landscape Architecture, NYSED registration as a professional program, and submitted the application for accreditation by ASLA/LAAB. During Dr. Zurayk's term, LDEM became a member of the European Council for Landscape Architecture Schools (ECLAS) (March 2019); created the annual student LDEM Chair's Award of Excellence (2015), and moved into its new premises in Reynolds Hall. Dr. Zurayk's term also witnessed the finalization of a proposal for a Masters of Landscape Architecture (MLA) (December 2018); and the Department's promotion and reappointment criteria for faculty were developed and incorporated into the FAFS' 'Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure Criteria and Procedures'.
FAFS and LDEM congratulate Dr. Abunnasr and wishes him all success in his new role, while sincerely thanking Dr. Zurayk for his leadership, for maintaining LDEM's collegial atmosphere, and for ensuring its continuous success.
