The outgoing Chairperson, Dr. Martin Keulertz worked extensively throughout the past four years; the FAFS community thanks him for his diligence. Dr. Keulertz joined AUB and FAFS as the first assistant professor in food security in August 2016. He was elected chairperson in June 2017. During his tenure, the food security program steadily attracted new students, growing from four in 2016, to over 30 students this year (2020). Dr. Keulertz attracted numerous guest speakers and seminars led by international leaders in the field of food security.
Effective July 1st, Dr. Rami Zurayk assumed the position of Director of the Food Security Program and Chairperson of the Food Security Program Executive Committee. Dr. Zurayk, a world leader in food security, will continue steering the program into a very promising future. Dr. Zurayk has a long and distinguished administrative career at FAFS, and has served as Associate Dean, and Chair of the LDEM Department (2014-2020). We look forward to the future successes Dr. Zurayk will lead the Food Security Program in and we thank Dr. Keulertz for his dedication and contributions to the program.
