The Arab Council for the Social Sciences organized a workshop, New Regionalisms and the Middle East (Beirut, Le Bristol, February 8-9), to explore new emerging trends of regionalization in the Middle East. Dr. Giuliano Martiniello, an expert in development studies and agrarian political economy at FAFS, participated in the meeting, offering the presentation: Manufactured Regional Scarcity: The Middle East and North Africa under Global Food Regimes. The workshop included discussions of the political challenges, food and water regimens, economic strategic partnerships, security, infrastructural change, and more. Dr. Adam Anieh, Reader in Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), chaired the workshop, whose goal was to bring together an array of scholars, researchers, and academics to present case studies and explore the conceptual, theoretical and methodological frameworks needed to unpack the emerging dynamics.
