Dr. Maria Gabriella Trovato, Assistant Professor, LDEM, FAFS, was an invited speaker in the Thinkers and Doers series of Victoria University, New Zealand (October 27th). Dr. Travoto's presentation, Spaces of crisis and conflict. Landscapes in emergency, focused on her research on the Mediterranean region, an area suffering from the pressures of increased migratory flows and witnessing unprecedented threats that are exacerbating inequalities and undermining human rights and environmental justice. Scholars and intellectuals share the idea that there is a fundamental right to landscapes, a right to healthy, culturally rich environments. Dr. Trovato's research objective is to define liminal paths between humanitarian design, the right to shared landscapes, and community well-being.
