Using Story Maps technology to provide a compelling narrative and informative maps, Dr. Hadi Jaafar and team uncovered the effects of humanitarian interventions on agriculture in conflict-affected Syria.
The story map was featured in the SDGs Today storytelling hub under SDG 2 collection: Zero Hunger. Part of the v community, the story explains the impact of the 2011-2017 Syrian war on agricultural production by using remote sensing techniques. First introducing the Syrian crisis in numbers then briefly reviewing the dreadful consequences on internal displacement, loss in agricultural production, and severe food insecurity. At its core, the Story Map uses advances in remote sensing technologies to unfold the extent of improvements in agricultural production post-conflict restoration of pumping systems executed by FAO for irrigation purposes.
