With the support of the European Commission, and as part of the Ajyal Salima (Healthier Kids) program, Dr. Carla Habib-Mourad participated on June 4, 2021, in the international virtual conference Childhood Obesity within the COVID-19 Pandemic. The conference objective was to enable experience exchange among programs from countries considering a shift to online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Topics discussed included the pandemic related impacts of the elimination of face-to-face learning and confinement on student's health and knowledge and the adaptability of obesity prevention programs at schools.
Dr. Habib-Mourad shared the adaptation journey of Healthier Kids in the Middle East before and during the pandemic, along with plans for post-covid 19 era of the program. She discussed local insights on changes in trends emerging during the pandemic for families with kids related to eating habits, lifestyle habits, and obesity prevalence. Dr. Habib-Mourad concluded with a discussion of the digitization of the Ajyal Salima program as a proposed strategy for childhood obesity prevention in the Middle East.
