LDEM's Capstone Project team successfully held (May 18) virtual final juries for the Landscape Capstone project II (LDEM 242) graduating class in Landscape Architecture. The team consisted of Dr. Yaser Abunnasr (coordinator), Dr. Beata Dreksler, and part-time senior lecturer Dr. Serge Yazigi. The focus of this year's two-semester research and design course was recovery in general and recovery from the August 4, 2021 blast specifically. During the Fall semester, students developed themes on recovery through research and case studies (Landscape Capstone Project I – LDEM 241). Each student chose a theme and developed a research project. During the Spring semester, students developed individual designs and interventions.
During both semesters, students focused on answering one important question: what is (could be) the role of landscape architects in the process of city recovery? The projects responded in multiple ways to the question, varying in scale, focus, and purpose. Five key themes emerged as possible roles for landscape architects. The jury held five short, virtual sessions (May 18). LDEM congratulates the BLA class of 2021 for successful completion of their projects during these difficult times.
