FAFS Agribusiness Program Faculty participate in FAO online panel discussion: Ensuring Food Safety and Nutritional Quality of Foods

Dr. Gumataw Abebe and Ms. Rachel Bahn, FAFS' Agribusiness Program faculty, participated (May 20) in an online panel discussion Ensuring Food Safety and Nutritional Quality of Foods, organized by the FAO Regional Office for Near East and North Africa (NENA). The event shared knowledge and examples of innovative food safety policies, programs and good practices that could be scaled up across NENA, seeking insights on current challenges to ensuring food safety and integrating food security, food safety, and nutrition.

The event featured speakers from FAO, national ministries, relevant public entities, and academia. Dr. Abebe's intervention drew on the study of the “Drivers for the implementation of market-based food safety management systems: Evidence from Lebanon," which was co-authored with Ms. Bahn, Dr. Ali Chalak (FAFS, Department of Agriculture), and Mr. Abed Al Kareem Yehya (FAFS, Food Security Program) and previously published in the journal Food Science & Nutrition.
