In April 2021, the Food and Agriculture Student Society Cabinet came up with the idea of hosting FAFS Alumni in a series of webinars entitled “FAFS Alumni Success Stories". The main goal of this event was to create a bond, not only between undergraduate and graduate students at FAFS but also between students and alumni.
In these unprecedented times, finding the motivation to study and achieve milestones is very challenging. The student body needed a fresh reminder that reaching mountain tops in food and agriculture is possible despite hardships and that FAFS helps in shaping successful careers.
The guest speakers of the first webinar on April 15 were Dr. Carla Habib Mourad, nutrition entrepreneur and lecturer at FAFS, and Ms. Vanessa Srouji founder of V Divino. Dr. Mourad's presentation highlighted the meaning of being a nutrition entrepreneur, the skills needed, the scope of this career and how the nutrition and dietetics program at FAFS trained her and equipped her with all the know-how and knowledge to thrive and overcome all the challenges in this filed. Ms. Srouji talked about her path at FAFS, the positions she took on, and the awards she won. She explained how she launched her own wine brand V Divino despite the stereotype of being too young to run a business and despite approaching finals period whilst being a double major student in Agribusiness and Agriculture.
In the following week, on April 22nd, the society hosted Mr. Ramy Boujawde, deputy general manager at Berytech. Mr. Boujawde walked the students through his academic life at FAFS, followed by his travels and plans after graduation and his job shifts over the years. He gave advice of guidance for students confused between pursuing a business program and pursuing an agribusiness program. He encouraged them to understand the science and technology of agriculture if their goal is to work in the field.
In sum, the “FAFS Alumni Success Stories" sessions were found to be very beneficial and motivating for students exploring the post-graduate world of opportunities FAFS enables them to enter and we hope to continue the series as soon as courses resume.
