International Women's Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and a call to action for addressing gender parity. This year's theme for International Women's Day (March 8) was Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world. IFLA celebrated the day by recognizing the leadership and commitment of those women are IFLA past presidents and delegates and members of regional executive committees, working groups, and national associations.
Dr. Trovato, chairs the Landscape Architects Without Borders (LAWB) Working Group, which reclaims the role of landscape design, planning, and management in the context of global challenges (displacement and migration, climate change and natural disasters, social justice and right to the landscape) through sustainable management of natural resources and contributing to local livelihoods by thoroughly integrating ecological performance, design culture, and social equity.
Dr. Al-Akl serves as a guest member on the Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award (SGJA) jury; this one-year award is the highest honor IFLA can bestow upon a landscape architect and recognizes a living landscape architect whose lifetime achievements and contributions have had a unique and lasting impact on the welfare of society, the environment, and the profession of landscape architecture. The award is bestowed annually on an academic, public, or private practitioner whose work and achievements are respected internationally.
