The International Water Resources Association, in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (UN-FAO), held its 2021 Online Conference: One Water, One Health: Water, Food and Public Health in a Changing World (June 7-9, 2021). The conference was supported by the American University of Beirut (AUB), the China Water Resources Association (CWRA) and Texas A&M University.
IWRA's Online Conference addressed the science and policy perspectives of the challenges and priorities that were exacerbated by the public health crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic: disrupted farming, production, shipping, and the complex nexus of sectors often treated in silos. The conference highlighted the fragilities of the interconnected systems upon which we all depend: water, food, and public health, and the sustainable governance, use, and management of these resources globally and the essential roles of the interlinkages between water, food and public health in responding to the stressors of pandemics, climate change, population growth, and urbanization. Water is critical for agriculture and food processing and has an essential role in nutrition and broader human health issues.
