LEAF’s First Publication on Radiation Level’s following the Beirut Sea Port Explosion

Following the August 4, 2020 explosion at the Port of Beirut that ripped the city to shreds, killing more than 200, wounding 6500 others, and leaving about 300,000 residents temporarily homeless, concerns were raised about the possible presence of radioactive material and its associated public health risks.

Accordingly, and after opening the affected sites to public access, LEAF's team and members of AUB's Environmental Health Safety and Risks Management Unit conducted an external radiological survey of the area.

Information about the outcomes is available in the LEAF publication in Radiation and Environmental Biophysics at this link
