On Friday, April 9, Dr. Rami Zurayk, Professor in the Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management (LDEM) and Director of the Food Security Program (FSP), delivered the lecture Of Seeds and Wars at the Critical Environmental Studies Workshop organized by the Arab Council for the Social Sciences as a part of its New Generation Program 2021. Workshop participants are regional experts from Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, and Tunisia, as well as Master and PhD students. Exclusively in Arabic, the workshop examined a variety of environmental issues and concepts, emerging areas, and actors in the field.
Dr. Zurayk addressed systems thinking and socio-ecological systems in the Arab region, focusing on the Fertile Crescent and aimed at understanding contributing to changing the world by applying a complex perspective that builds on the organic integration of human societies and natural environment. Participants joined the discussion, engaging on issues related to the Arab region including the impact of occupation and wars.
