ME PRO LAND is a two-year educational program that addresses sustainable development challenges of the Middle East by combining two complementary fields: curriculum innovation in higher education and community development. Dr. Dreksler represents AUB as part of the working team developing the project methodology and coordinating its implementation in Jordan in 2021 and in Lebanon in 2022.
The transformative, practice-oriented ME PRO LAND addresses sustainability challenges through problem-solving approaches that integrate systems thinking, structured anticipation, value-laden deliberation, evidence-supported strategies, and strong collaboration across government, businesses, and civil society. This year the focus is the rural community of Ajloun, Jordan, which will be developed into a living lab for productive landscapes. In 2022, the workshop and first Middle East Landscape Forum are planned in Lebanon.
The project is realized in partnership with the American University of Beirut (AUB, Lebanon), Nürtingen-Geislingen University (Germany), German-Jordanian University (Jordan), the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), and the Community of Ajloun (Jordan). MEPROLAND is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
