Spaces of Crisis and Conflict: Globalization, Social/Spatial Inequity, Marginalization, Migration, and Right to the Landscape

Dr. Maria Gabriella Trovato presented (January 13) her work Spaces of Crisis and Conflict: Globalization, Social/Spatial Inequity, Marginalization, Migration and Right to the Landscape at the Cuthbertson Dialogues 2021, School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Trovato noted that the profession of landscape architecture is in a state of radical change in response to current global challenges, including conflicts, environmental disasters, pandemics, food insecurity, and the consequences of climate change (drought, flooding, starvation, soil depletion and impoverishment); all of which are widening disparities and exacerbating human mobility. The transformation witnessed during recent decades is leading to a societal shift and the production of entirely new landscapes in which old and new narratives and memories are mixed.
