The American Chemical Society (ACS) Annual Fall 2021 conference symposium will honor Professor Rabi H. Mohtar whose leadership of multiple initiatives throughout his interdisciplinary career has resulted in seminal contributions to the development of Water-Energy-Food nexus research, education, and engagement globally.
The symposium, Toward creating a Water-Energy-Food Nexus Community of Practice: A Symposium in Honor of Professor Rabi H. Mohtar, will include multiple stakeholders from academia, private and civil society, and public sectors in the various thematic areas related to operationalizing WEF nexus research and development. Mohtar will highlight lessons learned from cross-disciplinary collaborations in several national and global case studies, and the opportunities that lie in creating an inclusive, cross-disciplinary WEF nexus Community of Practice and the role of existing, disciplinary societies in such a Community.
The Symposium, taking place starting Sunday August 22 till Thursday August 26, 2021, will include several invited and contributed oral and poster sessions and contributors to the session will be invited to submit manuscripts for a Special Issue of the Water-Energy Nexus Journal. The call for papers opened in April 2021; manuscripts will be accepted until November 2021. Topics include (but are not limited to):
- Water-Energy-Food-Health nexus and the Sustainable Development Goals
- Sustainable food production systems
- Renewable energy and sustainable agri-food systems
- Building systems thinking and leadership capacity
- Behavioral changes towards sustainability in the Water – Energy – Food Nexus
- Governance of the Water – Energy – Food Nexus
