The Rasha and Nouhad Daouk Student Development Fund at FAFS had been established to help students advance their personal and academic development and expand their horizons without financial constraint. Annually, the Fund is used to support the participation of one or more FAFS students in academic and professional conferences and workshops by offsetting all or part of the cost of registration, travel, and accommodation. Support is awarded on a competitive basis; selection criteria includes the originality and quality of the student's academic performance, research abstract, poster, oral presentation, paper, or design project.
For 2021, Ms. Maya Salameh, graduate AGRI student under the supervision of Dr. Walid El Kayal, was awarded the Rasha and Nouhad Daouk Student Development Fund to attend a two-week virtual workshop organized by UC Davis starting April 13, 2021. The workshop focused on Fruit Ripening & Ethylene Management, which is directly related to Maya's current thesis subject. The workshop added to Maya's knowledge in postharvest science and complementing information necessary to what she is currently learning in her graduate courses.
