The René Moawad Foundation has extended their value chain activity
program with FAFS-AUB, which is led by Dr. Walid El Kayal, Assistant Professor at
the Department of Agriculture, through the project “Strengthening Exports of
Fruits and Vegetables from Lebanon to European and Regional Markets” until end
of August 2022.
This collaboration that includes three commercial value chains
(Avocado, Grapes and Cherries) contributed to the successful export of a test
batch of Lebanese avocado to the United Kingdom last June for the first time
and it will ensure the export of more commodities from Lebanon to the UK and to
the EU market in the future. As part of this effort, Dr. El Kayal has organized
a virtual workshop in the form of a series of sessions with the University of
California (UC Davis) Postharvest Center which began on July 28. The next
session was held on December 6 on avocado pest management.
